The Bayliner 5788 was the flagship of the Bayliner fleet during her production years. By any standard, her most attractive feature was an extremely low price compared with other yachts her size. Built on a lightweight, fully cored hull, the wide beam of the 5788 results in a spacious interior with three staterooms and two full heads, one with a tub. The floorplan is typical of most pilothouse yachts with the galley forward in the salon and the full-beam owner’s stateroom located beneath the pilothouse. The separate dinette of the 5788 is notable—most pilothouse floorplans delete this convenience for lack of salon space. Visibility from the raised pilothouse is very good. Bayliner used an abundance of traditional teak woodwork throughout the interior of the 5788, and while the decor isn’t glitzy, the overall impression is one of space and comfort. In the small cockpit, the flybridge steps lift up for access to a spacious engine room. It should be said that the finish of the 5788 MY is notably better than earlier Bayliner models. MAN 610hp diesels cruise at 20 knots (mid 20s top). Note that she was restyled and reintroduced in 2003 as the Meridian 580 Pilothouse.
