The Bayliner 4587 Cockpit MY is a cockpit version of Bayliner’s 4387 Aft Cabin MY. The prop pockets used on the 4387 were eliminated in the 4587, and a spray rail was added at the chine for a drier ride—in most other respects the two boats are very similar. Produced for only two years during the mid-1990s, the 4587 MY is what boating enthusiasts often call a lot of boat for the money. Her two-stateroom floorplan is arranged with the galley and dinette down, and large wraparound salon windows provide excellent outside visibility from the lower helm. Both staterooms have double berths, but only the aft head compartment has a separate stall shower. This isn’t a high-end interior with plush carpets and expensive furnishings, etc., but it is spacious and the furnishings and appliances are of good quality. The aft deck is very spacious (a hardtop was standard), and the cockpit came with a transom door and lazarette storage. Note that engine access is tight, and for a boat this size the fuel capacity is modest. Standard 250hp Hino diesels cruise at 18–19 knots (mid 20s top). Optional 310hp Hino diesels are a knot or two faster.
