The 3488 Command Bridge was the first boat built using Bayliners modular production system, a process of assembling prebuilt modules separate engine room, forward stateroom, and salon modules, etc. This construction process reduced production costs and according to the Bayliner provided a more precise fit with improved structural integrity. Built on a solid fiberglass hull with modest deadrise and an integral swim platform, the 3488s conservative styling and practical midcabin floorplan make for an altogether pleasant and practical family cruiser. Both staterooms are fitted with double berths. A lower helm was optional, and a spacious galley with tons of counter and storage space is to starboard in the salon. On deck, a flybridge overhang shades the small cockpit from the sun. Molded steps lead up to the flybridge, which is large for a 34-footer. Additional features include a stall shower in the head, a teak-and-holly galley sole, and a transom door. Standard 260hp MerCruiser gas inboards cruise at 14 knots (about 20 knots top), and optional 250hp Cummins diesels cruise at 18 knots and reach a top speed of 2223 knots.
