The Albemarle 280 Express is an updated version of the company’s popular 27 Express (1984–96) with an updated interior and redesigned deck layout. Heavily built on an aggressive deep-V hull with a wide 9'6"" beam, the 280’s solid package of hardcore fishing amenities—together with good range and equally good turn of speed—placed her in the leading ranks of under 30-foot sportfishing boats. Notably, she was offered with a choice of straight inboard or jackshaft/sterndrive power. Features include an integral bow pulpit, two in-deck fish boxes, folding rear seat, aft-facing cockpit seat, twin transom livewells/fish boxes, cockpit rod storage, fresh/raw-water washdowns, trim tabs, gas-assist engine hatch lift, locking cabin rod storage, cockpit bolsters, and gunnel rod holders. Below deck, the 280’s roomy teak-trimmed interior includes a teak-and-holly sole, standup head/shower compartment, compact galley with refrigerator, and a convertible dinette/V-berth forward. No lightweight, standard 280hp Volvo gas engines cruise at 22–23 mph. Twin 210–240hp diesels cruise in the mid 20s.
