Flagship of the Viking fleet when she was introduced, the original 72C was the most successful large production convertible of her day.
With her yacht-class accommodations and massive cockpit, the Viking 72 Convertible (introduced in 1995 as the Viking 68) was one of just a handful of production convertibles this size produced during the 1990s. The 72 was a state-of-the-art yacht when she came out with the speed and handling qualities of a convertible and the interior comforts of a midsize motor yacht. Stepping inside from the huge 216 sq. ft. cockpit, the 72’s impressive accommodations include four staterooms and four heads including a spectacular full-beam master suite amidships. On the deckhouse level, the galley and dinette are forward, one step up from the enormous salon with its designer furnishings and satin-finished cabinetry. A walk-in storage room is forward of the galley, and a convenient day head is forward of the dinette. A curved staircase in the starboard corner of the salon ascends to the climate controlled flybridge. A second helm station on the flybridge observation deck overlooks the cockpit. Notably, the 72 was the first Viking convertible built with a cored hull bottom. Viking built 10 of these first-generation 72 Convertibles during a four-year production run. No lightweight, Detroit 16V92 1,800hp diesels cruise at 25–26 knots (high 20s top).
The 72’s combined salon, galley and dinette area is perfect for entertaining a large group. A convenient day head is just forward of the dinette.
