The Next Generation Viking Yachts 58 Convertible
Introducing HMY’s Newest Jewel, the 2019 Princess 75’ Flybridge Motor Yacht
The pedigree, performance, and production quality of Viking Yachts’ sportfishing yachts are the reasons Viking is the undisputed leader in that category. Approximately 75% of sportfishing yachts built worldwide yearly feature the legendary Viking name.
So, what’s next for Viking? After deftly navigating the recession better than most other boat builders, Viking emerged stronger and more resolute, positioned for growth and success. As they solidified their dominance on the sportfishing market, they saw another opportunity on the horizon.
HMY broker Doug Donohue explains: “Having had tremendous success building motor yachts from the mid-80s to early 2000s, Viking recognized the fact that in today’s marketplace there is strong demand for a high quality, American-made motor yacht with an emphasis on style and performance. They answered this demand by introducing a true masterpiece, the Viking 75.”
That’s high praise from someone with Doug’s background. With HMY since 1997—and selling sportfishing and motor yachts in South Florida for 21 years—Doug has a strong comprehension and knowledge of the motor yacht market and construction process. He’s already delivered one 75 and is in talks with several other customers about this sophisticated beauty.
Viking last delivered a motor yacht—the 60 Cockpit Sport Yacht—in 2001. The 17 years since have been filled with innovations, refinements, and advancements. To ensure the 75 lived up to Viking’s world-class heritage while offering the utmost in luxury, the Viking design team collaborated with Michael Peters Yacht Design of Sarasota, FL to reflect and build upon these changes in the motor yacht market.
Like its sportfishing brethren, the 75 is a quality, performance-oriented design, with a sleek, curvy exterior profile and other style cues taken from Viking convertibles. This sportfishing heritage is one of the key differentiators between a Viking motor yacht and the competition.
“The first time I sea-trialed the 75 I was blown away by its performance and maneuverability,” said Doug. “It was a three-foot sea, and choppy. I was comfortable and sitting on the bow the entire time. After a while I went to the bridge and realized we were going 30 knots, and about to run down a 60’ sportfish. ‘What?????’ I thought.”
“Then we started making some sharp turns. The VIPER steering system featured in Viking’s larger convertibles is also featured here. We were making sharp turns into a decent sea with little effort and no change in engine loads. Once again, wow! I said to my clients, ‘doesn’t this feel and behave like your Viking convertible?’”
The simple answer is, yes, it does. The 75 is fast and comfortable, with incredible maneuverability, a 30-knot cruising speed, and a top end in the mid-30 knot range.
In addition to the incomparable high-end performance, the 75 includes everything you’d expect from a luxury motor yacht, including four staterooms—each with their own head and shower—a full beam master suite, crew quarters with private access, a fantastic helm and bridge layout, open galley and dining area, Seakeeper stabilizer, shallow draft, sky roof, and an engine room layout that is unsurpassed.
Now, here’s one of the best parts for owners: 100 percent of this vessel is manufactured at Viking’s facility in New Jersey. 90 percent of the parts and pieces are made on site. Any needed parts can usually be obtained and delivered in a day or two. The competition must send parts from Europe or Asia and the downtime can be weeks or months to resolve simple problems.
Bottom line, “This is the perfect choice for the most discriminating motor yacht buyer,” Doug declares.
