The Princess S Class Series: A New Generation of Yachting Excellence

By HMY   August 20, 2019

Often referred to as hybrid designs, Princess S Class yachts combine the versatility of a flybridge yacht with the styling and performance characteristics of a sportcruiser. The first S Class model — the S72 — was introduced in 2014. Where the S72 was based on the existing Princess V72 sportcruiser, the three current S Class models profiled below were designed from the keel up to be sportbridge yachts. With speeds approaching 40 knots they are among the fastest flybridge yachts currently in production.

Princess S78

2018-Current

Overview: Flagship of the S Class series, the S78 combines motoryacht luxury and sportyacht performance in a yacht of exceptional beauty.

Layout: The aft galley interior of the Princess S78 features three en suite guest cabins forward and a full beam master suite amidships. The entire main deck area is arranged on a single level from the cockpit forward to the salon and floor-to-ceiling side windows provide panoramic views from the central seating area. The huge flybridge is set up for entertaining and lounging with seating for up to a dozen guests. Even with a flybridge the S78 still has a retractable sunroof over the lower helm position. The cockpit is especially versatile with modular seating allowing for several entertaining options. A garage beneath the port sunpad houses a 15 foot tender, and the hydraulic swim platform is perfect for watersports. Crew quarters are accessed from the swim platform. Of special note: A premium NAIM sound system is integrated into the flybridge, salon, cockpit and master stateroom of the S78 providing a fully synchronized multi-zone music experience.

Performance: No lightweight, MAN 1,900 V12 diesels deliver a best-in-class top speed of 39 knots.

Princess S65

2016-Current

Overview: Beautifully styled and impeccably appointed, the Princess S65 remains the standout performer in this very competitive class.

Layout: The accommodations of the S65 include a large cockpit with tender garage, hydraulic swim platform, foredeck seating and sunlounger, four staterooms, three heads and rear crew quarters. Her galley aft arrangement with its open-plan dining area has sliding doors and an electric window that opens to the cockpit to create an al fresco bar. Full length windows flood that main deck area with natural light, and the forward salon sunroof is a feature seldom seen in a flybridge yacht. A deck access door at the lower helm makes docking easy. Below decks, the nearly full beam bathroom aft of the master stateroom is unique in a motoryacht under 70 feet and adds a barrier of insulation between the cabin and the engine room. The port guest cabin doubles as a study, and the (snug) single-man crew cabin is a useful storage area. The raised sunpad and bench on the S65's foredeck includes sunlounger backrests that allow guests to read while enjoying the sun.

Performance: Twin 1,400hp MAN V12 engines reach a top speed of 36–38 knots. Early models with 1,200hp MAN diesels deliver 33–35 knots top.

Princess S60

2017-Current

Overview: Smallest of the current S Class models, the powerful lines of the Princess S60 conceal a beautifully crafted interior.

Layout: Inspired by the successful S65, the S60's aft galley design features an open-plan dining area and sliding glass doors with a fully opening window leading out to the cockpit. Floor-to-ceiling windows flood the entire main deck with natural light, and a sunroof forward opens the lower helm to the sky above. Below decks, six guests can be accommodated across a full-beam master stateroom and two well-appointed guest cabins. The meticulous craftsmanship on display throughout the S60's interior is unsurpassed. Topside, the flybridge is built for entertaining with a convertible sun pad across from the helm, compact wet bar, and L-shaped seating aft with a teak dining table. The hydraulic bridge bimini is a thoughtful touch, and the S60's raised foredeck includes sunlounger backrests that allow guests to read while enjoying the sun. Unlike many European yachts this size, the tender garage doesn't crowd out the machinery space.

Performance: MAN 1,200hp V8 engines reach a top speed of 37–38 knots.
