Princess Yachts and Bentley Motors Collaborate

By HMY Contributor   July 27, 2017

Bentley Motors' exclusive Mulliner Limited Edition Division and renowned shipyard Princess Yachts have joined forces to create a nautical-inspired Bentley and the finished product is a land yacht that proves their collaboration was a match made in luxury-craft heaven. The award-winning design studio at Princess Yachts is the in-house team responsible for all areas of yacht design, styling and finish across the Princess range. Working with naval architects to produce the world's most visually progressive and luxurious yachts, the Princess Design Studio has set a new standard for powerful, practical and wonderfully memorable design. It is only fitting that Bentley would choose such a prestigious yacht builder to consult with on this special edition model and certainly, Princess provided Bentley with the industry expertise needed to flawlessly achieve a luxury motor car that is a most brilliant nod to yachting.

The new Continental GT V8 Convertible is the most "seaworthy" of premium convertibles and a fine choice for the yachtsman who fancies his luxury automobile to be a reflection of his luxury motor yacht. Appropriately named after the Greek Goddess of calm seas, Bentley's Galene sports a highly-polished Glacier White exterior reminiscent of crystal clear waters and sleek lines that distinctly resemble those of a contemporary motor yacht. A Sequin Blue splash of color is incorporated on the lower brightware, imitating a yacht afloat on a tranquil sea, practically mirroring a water line on the hull of a Princess Yacht. Adding to the on-point oceanic theme are the 21” Ten Spoke "Propeller" Wheels in a polished finish. The dark tint front and rear lamps take a page from the tinted windows that allows light to flood into the interior through the expansive white hull of a Princess Yacht. To welcome you on board, the LED Approach Lamps project the Bentley Wings onto the floor from the wing mirrors.

The nautical theme continues inside the yacht-inspired Galene where Mulliner and Princess spent a lot of time perfecting various blends of leather and Alcantara to really deliver the look and feel of a vessel's plush interior. Linen serves as the main shade with Brunel as the secondary color. The center console features an innovative pinstriped walnut veneer in a natural finish inspired by the decking found on a Princess yacht. This pinstriped walnut finish is also found on the boot floor and is integrated into the illuminated Mulliner treadplates. A sweep of Brunel hide flows from the wings around the central console into the doors, where it contrasts with the Linen hide, decorated with Mulliner quilting. Perhaps the most magnificent use of the wood in this lavish vehicle is the deck space in the trunk which is an ode to the gorgeous teak-laden cockpits that can be found aboard many Princess Yachts models.

With Princess Yachts' partnership on this project, Bentley's bespoke customizing division hit the nail on the head with this lavish limited edition. No matter how far you may be from the coastline, cruising the open road in the Galene will feel like a day spent on calm waters, precisely what the two luxury-craft builders were working to accomplish. Mulliner will only offer 30 of the Galene Editions for sale, and fortunate buyers have an added option to include an exclusive interior superyacht illustration hand-painted by Spanish illustrator Jaume Vilardell on the front fascia panel (pictured below). The Glaene is well-powered by Bentley's 500-hp 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8.
