Viking Engineering

The newly announced Viking Yachts 38’ Billfish and 38’ Open models are both exceptional examples of Viking’s strong commitment to building a better boat every day. Of the 38’ Billfish, Viking’s John Leek IV stated, “We’re taking an opportunity to re-tool, refine, and make an already great boat even better. Some of the other engineering and other systems that you find throughout the rest of the Viking line, we’ve been able to integrate more completely with this new model.” As “the only builder that builds anything like the Billfish,” Viking Yachts has also added the more traditional, day-boat style Viking 38’ Open to its model line-up, offering yet another versatile model in the 30-foot range for clients to consider.

Command Deck

Sharing the same hull and similar mechanical arrangement, the 38’ Billfish and 38’ Open models differ in command deck and bridge configuration. The 38’ Billfish’s command deck welcomes you with a living area almost like a salon, that has a U-shaped dinette to port, and a fiberglass hi-lo table. Rod storage is discretely tucked away underneath a comfortable lounge to starboard. A tournament-style center console walkaround helm on the flybridge offers Palm Beach style controls and power-assist hydraulic steering. A second lower helm station on the starboard side is an available option for the 38’ Billfish’s command deck layout.

The 38’ Open’s command deck also offers ample seating, with port and starboard L-shaped lounges that offer storage space underneath. The driver will benefit from the excellent sightlines offered by the raised centerline command station equipped with a fiberglass helm pod, power-assist hydraulic steering, and Palm Beach style controls. For those seeking a second helm, Viking’s Palm Beach Towers can outfit the 38’ Open with a custom tuna tower and a buggy top.

Cockpit

A 109-square-foot-cockpit in both models is equipped with a laminated mounted plate, ready for you to customize your new fish raiser with a fighting chair, rocket launcher, or table installations. Whether you are taking your new Viking out for a day of leisurely cruising or canyon fishing, both the Viking 38’ Billfish and Viking 38’ Open have you covered. The cockpit of both vessels features in-deck insulated fish boxes port and starboard, a bait freezer with upper tray, a transom fish box and live well, rod holders, tackle storage, and fresh and salt water wash downs. The centerline walkthrough is also flanked by two-person seats. For easy access to ice cold refreshments and anything else you may need, there is also refrigerated drink storage, and ample general storage throughout.

Accommodations

Dedicating much of its space below deck to overnight livability, the 38’ Billfish offers a forward stateroom, L-shaped galley, and head with enclosed shower. “At the end of the day, you have nice comfortable accommodations to spend the evening and have a meal, and it’s just more versatile than what you can do with a big center console,” says HMY Yacht Sales Professional Doug Donohue. The 38’ Billfish can be configured with an island queen or crossover berth arrangements and offers two hanging lockers.

The 38’ Open on the other hand has a layout geared towards day boating that features sofa with storage to starboard, and a galley and head with enclosed shower to port. For sleeping accommodations, the 38’ Open has a lower double bunk and an upper single bunk with a starboard hanging locker.

The Viking 38’ Billfish will make her debut at the Viking VIP Preview, hosted by the Viking Yachts Service Center in Riviera Beach, Florida, February 1st and 2nd. Immediately following, she will be on display at the Miami Yacht Show, February 14th – 18th, 2019. The Viking Yachts 38’ Open is slated to make its debut during the fall boat show season of 2019.
