Due to their limited production philosophy, Riviera Yachts has made the 54’ Belize Daybridge an uncommon sight, making "Loney May" a must-see if you're in the market for a cruising yacht. Considering her rarity in the United States, we’ll attempt to explain her prime elegance and advanced design in a few paragraphs.
Her sheerline is a nod to the real soul of a traditional yacht, remaining tastefully flat until gently rising toward the bow. While a low profile and flat sheerline usually hints to less space below, the 54' Belize is an exception to the rule with loftier staterooms, heads, and living areas than other similar-sized motoryachts of her class.
A low-profiled super structure on the water is paramount to avoiding the pitfalls of a taller, top-heavy boat. She manages to maintain stability and avoid windage, while still offering a daybridge to give you the freedom of the open air without that “bobber in the water” feeling.
Cummins Zeus pod drives combined with a warped-plane hull and a forward flare decreasing to a 12 degree deadrise at transom gives her a very fine entry. The precise geometry to this planning powerboat was first engineered by Ocean Yacht Designs, then reviewed by Cummins’ in-house naval architects, and further tweaked by the Australian Maritime College (AMC) after two rounds of tank testing. This resulted in a shape beautifully married to her powersouce.
Scooped pod tunnels further aid in efficiency, protecting props and allowing an appropriate keel for accurate tracking, with a considerable turn-down chine in the bow to deflect spray and deliver a dry and velvety ride.
“Loney May” produces a top speed of around 30 knots, a 25-knot cruise and a comfortable range, at 22 knots, of 400 nm, still leaving a safety margin of 10% reserve fuel.
Cockpit and Sun Deck
The 54’ Belize may be suited for luxury, but the yachting pursuit of the outdoors hasn’t been forgotten with a sprawling forward sunpad, wrap-around railing for family safety, and a generous teak aft swim platform.
The swim platform’s middle section raises and lowers hydraulically, granting easy access to the electric garage door and space for a 9’ tender and outboard, which can easily be loaded by the built-in electric winch.
The top of the transom opens up to an electric BBQ grill with a convenient sink.
An ideal spot for a sunset drink with a view, the cockpit provides a rear lounge with a folding hi-lo table, a wet bar with a fridge and icemaker, and a cozy bar with stools that swivel out when in use.
To create a warm and inviting ambiance and muted acoustics, Loney May’s interior is easy-on-the-eyes with satin-varnished woodgrain, leather, weatherproof leatherette, and fabric paneled walls and ceilings. Relax at home with remote-controlled electric blinds, an LCD TV, an electric TV cupboard, a Blu-ray player, a Bose Stereo media center, and an Ericsson W35 marine pack with wi-fi capacity.
The L-shaped seating area was smartly engineered as a lounge, a dinette, and designated storage for crockery, glassware, and charts.
On a cool day, let the ocean breeze in by opening sliding side windows, or if you prefer, cool off with 16,000 BTU’s of air conditioning in the salon, galley, berthing, and helm areas.
The galley of this 54’ Belize features granite countertops and cooking appliances donning the Miele name including a 3-burner cooktop, a combination oven, and a microwave. Two AC/DC Vitro Frigo chiller drawers and a separate freezer drawer create ample space for provisions, with a large stainless steel sink by award-winning German Grohe tapware.
The lower helm is a class in its own, resembling a Geneva Motor Show ‘dashboard’ in a progressive luxury automobile. However, her goals are undeniably maritime with a joystick control, two Garmin 15” touch screens, Muir windlass with a chain counter for precision anchoring, automatic trim tabs, auto-pilot, and cockpit video cameras keeping you well aware of extremities. All this is controlled from your Treben Italian leather electric helm seat.
Have ambitions to be the king or queen of your castle in the open air? Easy access to the upper helm is provided via teak and stainless steal stairway. Comfortability is not forgotten with an L-shaped loungeand fold-out teak hi-lo table which converts into a second sunpad.
The daybridge also provides air conditioning and a large wet bar including a pull-out fridge, a sink, a garbage bin, and glass/bottle storage.
Rarely seen on motoryachts of her class, the master stateroom extends the full beam of the boat, spoiling you with an eight-inch-thick full-sized mattress and a 24-inch TV/DVD that rises by remote control. Both sides of this cabin provide cedar-lined wardrobe and drawer spaces, a starboard side vanity, and an ensuite head with satin-varnished non-slip teak floors with a frameless glass shower stall.
As accommodating as the master, the VIP stateroom features an ensuite head and occupies the entire forward V-section. The third berthing area contains twin upper and lower berths, a hanging locker, bedside table and drawers, and its own 4,000 BTU air conditioning.
All You Could Want, With Something Extra On Top
The reality is, there is an extremely finite number of Belize Motoryachts built by Riviera each year. This means that you are not going to see another Belize in every marina, especially in the United States, contributing to her kept value and to your pride in owning something unique.
