2016: A Year In Review With HMY Yacht Sales
Each year seems to fly by quickly as the team at HMY Yacht Sales truly enjoys helping our clients achieve their goals of spending more time on the water fishing, cruising, and vacationing with their friends and family. Looking back on 2016, HMY would like to sincerely thank our clients for capping off what was an amazing year that ended with a 4% increase in brokerage sales. While an unpredictable election year arguably resulted in a slight drop in overall units sold within the whole yacht industry, having a 21% increase in our average deal per boat led to a more profitable year overall. The brokerage success combined with strong sales on new Viking Yachts, Princess Yachts, and Cruisers Yachts, HMY ended 2016 with over 475 sales for over $400 million.
"We are thrilled with how 2016 turned out" says Tim Derrico, Director of Sales for HMY. "What is exciting is to see the momentum heading into January 2017. Our average deal increasing by more than 20% was not a fluke. We have the right team in place in the right offices in the busiest yachting destinations in the world and combined with our dominant marketing strategy, we are seeing all components of our business fire on all cylinders."
Both Sportfishing Yachts and Motor Yachts played an equally predominant role in this year's success. Pre-Owned Viking Yacht sales improved 6 units over 2015 and motor yachts over 90' improved by 3 units over last year.

While we certainly look back over every sold boat and feel proud of helping our client achieve their goals, we cannot talk about 2016 without reminiscing over some of the events that HMY was blessed enough to take part. The HMY team is filled with experienced anglers that have traveled the world extensively looking for trophy Marlin and other big-game fish, so being a sponsor in many of the local fishing tournaments fits perfectly within our lifestyle. Whether it's the Viking Yachts Key West Challenge, Mike Schmidt Winner's Circle Invitational, Skip Smith's tournament series, or one of the many others, HMY is always honored to sponsor these events in the name of charity. But that doesn't mean we also don't have some fun! One of the best memories from this year is the first-place win at the Abaco Beach Blue Marlin Tournament that we were able to capture on video!
If you are truly a yacht-enthusiast then boat show season is one of the most exciting times of the year. Manufacturers release exciting new models with new features that were months in the making. 2016 once again offered great opportunities for you to get in front of the latest products at the Yachts Miami Beach Show, Palm Beach Boat Show, and Fort Lauderdale Boat Show. HMY's premier new yacht manufacturers stunned the industry in 2016 with several new models. At the 20th annual Viking VIP event in February, both the new 48 Convertible and 80 Convertible made their debut. HMY has sold multiple boats of each model due to their popularity. The 48C is the perfect boat for the owner operator that doesn't necessarily want a fulltime captain aboard. The maneuverability and easy access to the cockpit make it a great option for an angler with those needs. Princess also unveiled several new models including the 75 Motor Yacht which was named Best Production Motor Yacht Of The Year at the Asian Boating Awards. Cruisers Yachts also launched their first flybridge models including the 54 Cantius Flybridge and the 60 Cantius Flybridge, both of which debuted at recent boat shows to resounding success. The Resorts World Bimini marina offers the perfect destination from South Florida for a long weekend of snorkeling, partying, and lots of other fun events.
