2012 65’ Ocean Alexander Motoryacht Zenith, A Pilothouse with Poise

Ocean Alexander’s supreme quality in boatbuilding is due to use of top-end materials and their exclusive relationship with three people: naval architect Ed Monk, Jr., hydrodynamicist Ed Hegemann, and structural specialist Tim Nolan. Monk gifts each Ocean Alexander with the brawny look of a real sea boat and the grand interior a cruiser craves. The hull performs spectacularly thanks to Hegemann, and Nolan assures structural integrity. Ocean Alexander 65 Pilothouse “Zenith” is no exception to her Ocean Alexander brethren with sprawling interiors, a rock solid stable hull, and an impressive quiet running noise level due to quality insulation materials and design.

Ocean Alexanders are designed to cruise the Pacific on the west coast, so they’re extremely sturdy,” says HMY Yacht Sales Professional Arthur Grin. Grin earned his degree in maritime mechanical engineering in the Netherlands where he was born and raised. “[West coast cruisers] go from rock to rock, while [east coast cruisers] go from dock to dock, so everything is heavier duty. For example, the anchor bulkhead is a collision bulkhead. Qualities like these keep the interior a lot drier, you never have water weeping through, and you know you and your guests are safe.”

Ride

Experienced cruisers will definitely appreciate the stable and remarkably quiet ride that Ocean Alexander has engineered into the 65’ Pilothouse. C18 CAT 1135-horsepower engines paired with Teleflex power steering and supplemented with hydraulic bow and stern thrusters make maneuvers practically effortless. A passive stabilizer system and roll fins are built into the hull, producing a sound, steady platform for coastal cruising.

Insulation barriers and watertight bulkheads keep engine noise and vibration remarkably low aboard the 65’ Ocean Alexander Zenith, smoothly contributing once again to the primary goal- comfort. Her modified-V hull design puts the engines farther aft, utilizing drive shafts and propellers located in twin tunnels. This significantly reduces draft to a “Bahamas friendly” four feet, minimizes vibration, and increases cruising speed.

Main Deck

65’ Ocean Alexander “Zenith” embraces a “Eurostyle transom,” consisting of port and starboard teak curved pathways from the platform to the covered cockpit with a high gloss teak table, upholstered bench seating, and a wet bar perfect for entertaining. Safety is paramount with railing engineered to naturally fit the human hand, and removable U-shaped doors seperating the swim platform and the aft entertainment deck.

The full U-shaped galley not only boasts Giallo Veneziano Fiorito granite counter-tops, but a matching granite floor. Appreciate all of the amenities you would at home with a Fisher & Paykell dishwasher, Franke double sinks with pull-out faucet, a 36” French door refrigerator, a microwave, garbage disposal, a Kenyon electric cooktop, a Gaggenau 24” electic oven, a trash compactor, and - you guessed it - another wine chiller.

Flybridge

65' Ocean Alexander Pilothouse Zenith is the only model ever made that opted for a single pilothouse on the flybridge to make way for more room on the main deck. A fiberglass staircase leads from the aft deck to the flybridge where captain is protected from the elements behind a solid glass center windshield and fully-enclosed by clear eisenglass. The eisenglass can easily be rolled up or completely removed if the ocean breeze is preffered or it's time to grill filets for your guests.

There's no need to venture below for provisions, as this flybridge is decked out with a granite-topped wetbar, refrigerator, icemaker, stainless steel grill, and a u-shaped dinette. If you spill something on the indoor-outdoor carpet, don’t fret! Not only is it stain-resistant, there is an extra set in the lazarette, and below the removable carpet is easily rinsed fiberglass non-skid.
